Malaga Island in Phippsburg was once home to a mixed-race fishing community evicted by the state in 1912. Now a public preserve and an important Maine historical site, this trip includes a scenic paddle exploring the area around Malaga Island, as well as a stop on the island that over 50 people once called home.
There will be time to explore the former location of the homesteads that existed on the northern end of the island. This trip is appropriate for adults and children of all skill levels.
